2023 KYEHA Region MapKYEHA, formerly the Kentucky Association of Milk, Food and Environmental Sanitarians (KAMFES), originated in 1964.

However, in 2015, KAMFES Board adopted the new name “Kentucky Environmental Health Association” (KYEHA) and developed an affiliation with the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA).

Today, KYEHA remains the largest Environmental Health organization in Kentucky with approximately 400 members consisting of Regulators (local, state, federal), Industry professionals, Universities (students, educators, etc) and consumers.

Scholarship

Kentucky Environmental Health Association Awards

The Deadline for award nominations is December 31 each year in order to be eligible for receipt at the February Conference.  See below for Awards information:

  1. Outstanding Sanitarian: A) Any person who at the time of nomination is a member of the association and employed in Kentucky, as a dairy, food, or environmental sanitarian or who is employed as a sanitarian by local, state, or federal agencies is eligible for the award.  B)  A candidate shall have made a meritorious contribution in the field of milk, food, or environmental health to the public health and welfare within the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  C)  Co-workers are eligible for nomination if both have contributed equally to the work upon which the nomination is based.
  2. Industry Award: A) Any person, agency or entity who at the time of nomination has made meritorious contributions to field of Environmental Health and/or Public Safety within the Commonwealth of Kentucky and beyond.  B)  Co-workers are eligible for nomination if both have contributed to the work upon which the nomination is based.
  3. Service Award: A) Shall be presented annually to an individual, who is a member of the Association, a company, agency or organization that has contributed significantly to promoting the improvement and practice of environmental health and sanitation in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
  4. Steve G. Sandlin Jr. Achievement Award:  A) Any person who at the time of nomination is a member of the Association and employed in Kentucky, as a dairy, food, or environmental sanitarian or who is employed as a sanitarian by local, state, or federal agencies is eligible for the award; however, they must have less than five (5) years’ experience within the field of dairy, food, or environmental sanitation.  B)  A candidate shall have made a meritorious contribution in the field of milk, food or environmental health to the public health and welfare within the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  C)  Co-workers are eligible for nomination if both have contributed to the work upon which the nomination is based.
  5. The Billy Bob Award: A) Any person who at the time of nomination is a member of the association and employed in Kentucky, as a dairy, food, or environmental sanitarian or who is employed as a sanitarian by local, state, or federal agencies is eligible for the award.  B)  This award is to recognize the member or members of the organization who through unfortunate circumstances have had the funniest or dumbest thing happen to them in the line of duty. Please include the story with your letter of recommendation for the award.  C)  Co-workers are eligible for nomination.

To nominate an individual, individuals or organization, please submit a minimum of THREE (3) supporting letters to the address below.  Letters may be any length, but it is recommended that information be included supporting the nomination.
